Girls can put themselves forward to become Wellingborough’s next carnival queen.

Applications are now being accepted in the hunt for the court for this year’s carnival, which will take place on Saturday, July 7, followed by Party in the Park on Sunday, July 8, in Croyland Park.

This year’s carnival theme is The Olympics: Past, Present and Future.

Organisers are searching for a carnival queen and deputy carnival queen.

To enter girls must be aged 15 years or over on July 1 and there is no upper age limit.

The queen and deputy queen will be accompanied by two princesses.

To apply girls must be between nine and 14-years-old.

The court will be chosen at a selection evening at Wellingborough Museum at 7pm on Friday, March 9.

Court manager Barbara Terry said: “The selection evening is an informal interview about the girl’s hobbies, their likes and dislikes, whether they have any pets, just to see if they have got the personality – it’s about the personality, it’s not about beauty.

“It’s about whether the girls have a desire to represent the town and be an ambassador for the town.”

Mrs Terry said girls had a great time.

She said: “They have an absolutely fantastic year, they get to meet other girls in other carnival courts and they get to represent the town.

“There are open competitions they can enter but it isn’t about the competition and the trophies, it’s about the friendships they forge.”
