Housing estate plans are moving forward
Desborough Grange II master plan area: 27/01/12
A huge 700-house estate could soon become a reality in a county town.
Plans are moving forward for the Grange Two development to the north of Desborough, which incorporates up to 700 homes, a community centre and a school.
The proposal will be discussed at a meeting of Kettering Council’s planning committee tomorrow, with officers recommending the application is initially approved.
The plan will go back to the committee for final approval once several conditions have been met.
This plan is phase two of the Grange development in the north of the town, and was submitted last April.
Jonathan Chastney, director of CJC Development Co Ltd, which is behind the plan, said: “The issues that remain are very minor.
“We have put a lot of energy into creating homes in Desborough and this new estate will be a lovely place to live with the new leisure centre and a nature reserve in the area.
“Desborough is certainly a place on the up and in an ideal location for development.
“It would be nice to start work in the summer on the estate.”
The issuses in the proposal include concluding a Section 106 agreement with the council, and the Highways Authority requesting more information to assess how much of an impact the site will have on the A14.
Public consultations on the proposal took place last year, and there has only been six objections received by the council to the plan.
Cllr Mark Dearing, who represents the Loatlands ward where the estate could be built, said: “What we need in Desborough is jobs, infastructure and housing, so let’s get the houses built.
“The initial Grange development took a long time to build, but hopefully the town centre will have been regenerated by then and the influx of people into Desborough can make use of the town centre.”

Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 01:42 PMWhen I attended the public consultations at loatland school, I and every one who was there wear all asking the question WHY, why do we have to have over 700 houses built on greenbelt land, when I asked the representative of the the plans about jobs, employment he replied KBC just wanted to build houses they have no interest in bringing in employment ,I then questioned him on the badger site on the proposed site he just shrugged his shoulders said tricky one that .Then I asked about all the traffic that would be going in to the estate which there is only one ,again he had no answer .When the first phase of the grange was recommended they said we would have a like for like leisure centre a shop a bridge over the railway and a public house ,well we havenât any of them ,very interesting comments from Mr Chastney (CJC ) about issuers very miner ,how on earth are these miner issues .The impact this would have on the wildlife for deer, hares skylarks, red kite ,buzzards, kestrels plus the badgers there all up there plain to see .Come on KBC give us a break you got us on the floor now there is no need to kick us in the teeth ,just one more thing it turns out we are the only town to have a leisure centre without a bar !!!

Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 05:03 PMYet another interesting decision by Kettering Borough Council planners. Just over a year ago a planning request for temporary accomodation was refused because " there are in excess of 350 houses for sale and more than 40 for rent in the town ". The housing situation has not changed since this report so how can the need for these be justified. The only reason that just 6 objections have been raised about this massive development is because people now accept that they would be just wasting there time as the council just plod on in there own " sweet way " anyhow.

Monday, January 30, 2012 at 10:26 PMI once asked Mr Hakewill about demand for new housing (in relation to the massive proposed development in Kettering), and his response was along the lines of 'build it and they will come'. So this is expansion for expansion's sake - not very good for local jobs or services - not good at all.

Monday, January 30, 2012 at 07:53 PMAre the members and staff of Kettering Borough Council brain dead? At last weeks Planning Committee the Sainsbury's planning application was refused yet in that report it was agreed that the additional 700 houses (the subject of this weeks planning committee) could meet the need for two supermarkets in Desborough. As it may be some considerable time before the Tesco development gets off the ground due to the Co-op covenant on their site where is the sense of refusing Sainsbury's which if they go to appeal could cost the Council pounds if they win and apply for costs against the Council. Wake up Kettering and produce some positive action in Desborough and apply the Central Government policy of LOCALISM where there is support for in the locality.

Monday, January 30, 2012 at 06:39 PMis there any demand for more housing in desborough? we shouldn't be building just for the sake of it. there aren't the amenities to justify these new houses.

Monday, January 30, 2012 at 02:31 PMAgree. why on earth are they building so many homes in Desborough which has absolutely nothing? There are too many new homes there as it is.

Monday, January 30, 2012 at 11:45 AMOur house on the Grange has been on the market for a year. How are they expected to sell 700 houses? Where will they come from, why will they come and where will they work? Cllr Dearing says Desborough needs jobs, infrastructure and housing, so let's get the housing in first. People need jobs to afford mortgages though. The entire development might be completed before Tesco manages to overturn the covenant on the Lawrences site. And the one couple who have seen our house in a year expressed concern there was no petrol station in the town. It must be the largest town in England without a petrol station. Perhaps the council planners could look into that first.
