One in ten street light inquiries led to switch-on
Sue and Paul Varello from Euro Towers, Round Spinney, are blaming alck of street lights for their recent break-in.
About 900 street lights have been switched back on after more than 10,000 inquiries from the public.
The county council has reviewed the switch-off of about 3,600 lights and about a quarter of these resulted in lights being switched back on.
Brendan Glynane, leader of the Liberal Democrat opposition, said: “It has now been revealed that a massive 10,000 inquiries have been received, and this doesn’t include everyone who signed a petition.
“The Conservative-led council is treating petitions with hundreds of signatures as one inquiry.
“Of those 10,000 inquiries, only nine per cent have led to lights being switched back on. This is a disgrace.”
Cllr Glynane also said the amount of street lights to be switched off doubled on the last day of the council’s consultation.
But the council explained that a new, eight-week, consultation was launched on the proposal.
A county council spokesman said: “An additional eight-week consultation process began from the day the second set of budget proposals were announced, until March 23, to ensure people could have their say on how the additional proposals could be implemented.
“It should be made clear that the ‘10,000 inquiries’ figure does not just include requests to switch specific lights back on. In fact, it includes every contact we have received including comments, feedback and general queries about the switch-off programme.”

Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 01:33 PMI wish they would actually say how much was spent on these CONSULTATIONS. They are wasting tax payers money on them. They could have done a better job in the first place and needed a second one to try and fix the mess they had made, typical screw up by the incompetent county councillors.
