Corby has received its second major jobs boost in a week with the news that at least 40 positions are being created at a £2million factory site.

New chilled pastry company Bakeaway Ltd is opening today at the old Parker’s Fine Foods site in Baird Road, on the Willowbrook East industrial estate.

The company already has a contract to supply the Sainsbury’s chilled pastry range and says there is a “promise of many more” jobs to come.

Negotiations are already under way to forge links to the catering and business sections at Tresham College

It follows an announcement on Monday from the Bradford-based firm Advanced Supply Chain which is about to create 80 jobs at a warehouse in Eismann Way, Corby.

Bakeaway Ltd managing director Brian Homewood said: “We are currently supplying Sainsbury’s nationwide with 11 new products and our longer term plans are to grow the business by identifying other distribution points.

“It is an amazing conclusion to the project which we have been working on for the last year, and I am very proud that we have got to the point that we can employ local people.

“We are using local business where we can – our flour is milled at Whitworths in Wellingborough which means we have low food miles.

“Within three years we are aiming to turn over £14m to £15m and employ around 100 people.

“The chance to provide long-term job security is good news for the local community and Corby is also the ideal location, being central to all destinations in the UK.”

A Tresham College spokesman said the company and the college were working together to provide NVQs and other associated apprenticeships for students.

PS. Just saw the report on BBC Look East about the opening. STRANGE ??????? the ET never mentioned the factory was opened by MP Louise Bagshawe, clearly seen in the TV report. I wonder why?

@baldegale in principle I agree with the army bit (though not for me, it wouldn't have worked I didn't need the army to get a good work ethic, my parents did that) However, the bad apple approach doesn't work. The council do it with problem families. For example, CBC put a 'shameless family' in a quiet street I know with good neighbours who broadly speaking got on well with each other. Result? The shameless family are making it miserable for the people either side of them and their kids (5) throw snowballs at cars and fiddle with car tyres. when confronted the 'mum' breaks down 'its not my little darlings fault, he wasn't out' (that after my brother watched the 'little darling' walk home to hide). Her excuse 'ive got 5 kids to look after' - yeah right, how many fathers on the scene??? The army does not need these wasters. We have a professional world class army, they dont need bad apples to ruin the barrel. Some form of national service separate from the army would be an option but not for all, just the numpties who think they should get everthing for free.

What is wrone is that there is not a short sharp two years in the ARMY that would get them off there a###s and it would be good for them

ray i agree that there are lazy people in all towns including corby, and some of them need to get a grip and find a job if need be some of the laziest should be made to work ,but it surely cant help with immigrants coming over here to work.. it just gives the minority of lazy people an excuse, a poor one granted..

@trucker, if Corby people want these jobs they need to get off their collective a**** and show up on time, sober have a good work ethic and show they can be reliable and produce quality work. Otherwise I suggest they go to any eastern europeans who can show the same attributes. Being lazy and having a chip on both shoulders does not entitle you to a job just because your parents were 'british'.
