Writer Dorcas Munday from Wellingborough, who has cerebral palsy, has written and released her 10th book.

Dorcas, of Castle Street, has been writing books since the 1960s about her involvement with Phab, a national charity which aims to promote and encourage people of all abilities to come together on equal terms.

She wrote her latest title, Memories Are Made Of This, because she feels that the best help someone who has a disability from birth can have is their friends.

The book features Dorcas’ memories, including her accounts of meeting three people in 1964 who stood out for her because they each gave her a lot of encouragement.

They include Sir John Lowther, the former Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire, who died last year.

The other two were the Rev Willie Booth, whom Dorcas met at Cranleigh and Westminster Phab Courses, and the Rev Gillian Bobbett, whom she met at a campsite in Surrey.

Dorcas, who was made an MBE by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace in 1999, said: “All three of them were special people, who gave me so much encouragement.

“We all need encouragement, particularly if you are helping others as well as yourself. Disabled people need help, understanding and encouragement. It is much better to have it, otherwise it becomes harder to cope with being disabled. “I need encouragement to help others, I also think that friends who help me are the silver and gold in life.”

She said her latest book was all about remembering people who had helped her along life’s way.

Memories Are Made Of This is available to buy for £5.
