Closed club won’t fight for licence

THE owners of a recently closed nightclub have withdrawn their appeal against losing their licence.

Storm, in Rockingham Road, Corby, closed earlier this month, just weeks before an appeal hearing was due to take place.

The club lost its licence last July after a Northamptonshire Police raid four months earlier found underage drinkers on the premises, but it remained open under appeal.

It closed on Saturday, February 4, due to lack of business, with the loss of about 50 jobs.

A two-day hearing was due to take place at Northampton Magistrates Court on Wednesday, February 22, and Thursday, February 23, but the owner Paul Morgan has withdrawn the appeal.

The club had hired Sarah Clover, one of the UK’s most high-profile licensing barristers, to fight its case.

Instead a hearing to apportion costs will take place on Wednesday at Corby Magistrates Court.

Mr Morgan was not available for comment as the Evening Telegraph understands he is out of the country.

In a previous interview, Mr Morgan said he may still proceed with the appeal even though the club was closing.

Corby Council’s lead member for environment, Cllr Peter McEwan, said: “The owner of the nightclub has made a late decision to drop the appeal which effectively means that the license on the premises remains revoked.

“This decision will no doubt provide some comfort to residents within the Old Village who have raised concerns about anti-social behaviour and noise issues in this area.”

What if some of the anti-social behavior continues? The Village Inn next?
