Air Ambulance’s shop gets off to flying start

A NEW furniture shop was inundated with shoppers when it opened its doors for the first time yesterday.

A group of staff and volunteers had been working around the clock to get the new Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) shop in Market Street, Wellingborough, ready for the grand opening.

The charity has set up a shop selling furniture in the former Disabled 2 Able store.

The new shop is open plan with separate themed areas for the living room and bedroom.

The shop is also selling a range of smaller items and bric-a-brac, including books and various home accessories.

Crowds turned out to see the store officially open at 10.30am yesterday.

The opening was completed by a fly-over from the WNAA helicopter.

Guests at the opening included Clare Bloomfield and her son Harry, two, who was flown to hospital by the WNAA last year after he suffered burns from a spilt cup of tea in Rushden.

Clare said: “The shop looks good and the furniture is really nice, it seems almost like a new shop rather than a charity shop. I looked on the internet and the air ambulance’s shops have raised a lot of revenue, they rely on donations completely.”

Shop manager Caroline Poynter said: “I really think the shop will be a hit. When we were collecting furniture and bringing it in, the interest from people passing was absolutely amazing. We have got to thank everyone for their donations.”

Volunteer Susan Elliott from Kettering said: “I think it’s good, it’s well worth having a shop like this, and it’s for a good cause.”

Shopper Richard Cotton said: “I think it’s quite nice, it’s good for a charity shop.”

Shopper Ann Chesney said: “I think a lot of people will come in. People like charity shops in general and there’s some good stuff.”
