A major mobile home manufacturer in Northamptonshire is set to lay off around 100 workers due to falling trade.
Up to 99 jobs could go at the Tingdene Group in Wellingborough, which builds mobile homes, modular housing and log cabins.

Tingdene, which has been in the town since 1969, employs more than 380 staff at its site on the Finedon Road industrial esta
te.

The jobs will go as part of a restructure, but business is continuing as usual.

It is the second business in this industry to shed jobs.

Last month Homeseeker Park Homes in Irthlingborough confirmed it is shedding around 90 jobs as part of a merger with its sister company, Advent Leisure Homes in York.

The move would see a £9m show village created as part of its move to Rushden.

Human resources manager for Tingdene, Simon Iliffe confirmed restructuring would take place but said he could not confirm the number of jobs to go, or say which departments they would be in.

He said: "The economic climate has affected sales and we are having to go through a restructuring process as part of that. We are in a consultation period, speaking to employees and considering our restructuring options."

He emphasised business was continuing, but at a reduced rate.

Mr Iliffe said: "Business has been good. We have managed to get this far through the year without having to take any action but with things the way they are it is having an effect on the business.

"There is still a positive market out there but generally across various markets restructuring needs to be considered, but we are hopeful the business will pick up."

Tingdene's employees have been notified of the restructuring through letters and meetings.

As well as the company's modular housing manufacturing business, the firm also has a portfolio of residential and holiday developments, and a builders' merchant specialising in modular building supplies. It has two manufacturing facilities on two sites on the industrial estate, totalling 20 acres.

Tingdene is a privately owned company with a gross turnover of £40m.

Its Wellingborough headquarters is the largest permanent display of static homes in the country.
